Machinery & Manufacturing | Issue 23 | Sept-Oct 25

AUTOMATION & DIGITALISATION Collaborative automation was a highlight, with Hurco’s ProCobot system and Job Manager software demonstrating how small-batch production can be flexible and cost-effective. Live demonstrations on the VMX42Di machining centre paired with the ProFeeder EasyDesk 30 robot showed how robotics can simplify operations. Starrag impressed visitors with hybrid demonstrations blending VR and physical displays. Attendees virtually explored machines, experienced tool changes, and viewed an Airbus A350 nose landing gear alongside the Dörries VT 28 vertical turning machine, illustrating the combination of immersive digital experiences and hands-on learning. 3D scanning and CAD workflows attracted attention with Hexagon’s Geomagic Design X, which converts scans into editable CAD models in one streamlined process. Automated segmentation, modelling wizards, and seamless CAD integration allowed faster replication and optimisation of parts. Johannes Mann, Senior Director at Hexagon MI, commented: “We’re flipping the narrative. Reverse engineering is no longer a laborious necessity, but an everyday capability that complements CAD-native design.” INSPECTION & METROLOGY Measurement technology demonstrated the integration of inspection into production. Renishaw’s Equator-X 500 dual-method gauge and Agility CMMs offered real- time process feedback, showing how inspection data is now central to adaptive manufacturing. Mitutoyo showcased the QM-Fit smart vision system, delivering measurements in seconds, while INSIZE announced its UK operation, presenting a full portfolio of metrology solutions from handheld gauges to advanced microscopes and Rockwell hardness testers.

Bruker Alicona’s SensorX, an OEM-ready 3D metrology sensor, integrated into machining centres and robotic systems. Manuel Kernchen of Nagel Technologies said: “The new SensorX greatly simplifies integration into our NaPrep. It enables us to evaluate a wider range of workpieces more quickly and fully exploit the benefits of integrated metrology in closed-loop control.” BLUM debuted the LC54-DIGILOG laser, a compact system ideal for microtools, alongside Form Control X software for machine-integrated quality control in series production. While Vision Engineering captured attention with the ProteQ VISO microscope, delivering glasses-free 3D viewing with autostereo LED and eye- tracking. “Inspection shouldn’t be fatiguing. With ProteQ VISO, ergonomics and collaboration go hand in hand,” the team explained.

EMO REVIEW

MAPAL celebrated its 75th anniversary with innovations including the OptiMill-Uni- HPC cutter, HPR400 reaming system, and aluminium machining solutions under the theme “Empower Your Aluminium Machining.” Where precision toolholding was highlighted by Nikken’s Zero-Fit tool holders, capable of sub-5µm run-out accuracy. Energy efficiency and workplace safety were emphasised with intelligent extraction systems. Filtermist’s F Save smart hub automatically switched off mist collectors when machines were idle, saving up to 80% of energy with rapid ROI. The new AW filter unit, co-developed with Absolent AB, captured submicron particles from neat oils, protecting workers while maintaining performance. René Joppi, Filtermist MD, said: “By only running units when needed, we reduce costs, save energy, and protect operators.”
